Before you ask.
Is this a coworking space or a community?
Both, in that order of importance. There's a real room in Austin with real desks. But the room is the excuse — what you're actually joining is the group of people in it. If all you need is a desk, there are cheaper desks.
Do I have to be a founder?
No. Engineers, designers, researchers, and operators are all here. What matters is that you're making something and you have a second thing going that you take seriously.
What counts as a "second thing"?
Whatever you'd still do if nobody paid you. A band, a kiln, an ultra, a novel, a supper club, a race car in a garage. It doesn't have to be good yet.
Where is it?
Austin, Texas. We share the exact address with members and day guests once you're through the application.
Can I visit before applying?
Yes — a day in the room is part of the process, not a favour. Apply and say you'd like to come sit in it first.
Do you do consulting or services?
No. Earlier versions of this site said otherwise; that's retired. MAKRSLAB is a community, full stop.
